In motion, it looks like a beautifully produced cartoon, though a crazily messy one in which all the all the characters are constantly punching each other and rescuing each other from bubbles.Įven in my short time playing it I saw a wide variety of environments, including lush jungles, Egyptian tombs, dingy caves, and even underwater sections. Everything you see within the game was hand-drawn by an artist, from the colourful backgrounds to the whacky heroes and their enemies. Ubisoft developed a new graphics engine for Rayman Origins which can take 2D art and dynamically animate it. What really draws the eye, though, is the stunning art. It is also easy to pick up and is just a little bit competitive, so I think it will be a popular party game. None of the levels are overly long, which makes Rayman Origins ideal for bite-sized gaming when you don’t have a lot of time to spare. Rayman Origins is essentially an old-school 2D platformer, in which up to four players can race through short, fast-paced, tightly-designed levels side by side.

It's hard to believe that Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet's visuals were all drawn by hand.
